Volunteers of America, Utah’s Circle of Hope project is an innovative program service developed to address the needs of American Indians served by Volunteers of America, Utah’s homeless outreach, substance abuse detoxification and treatment service programs.  Volunteers of America, Utah found that the American Indian populations, while sharing many of the same issues as others in the community, were not experiencing the same levels of success.

The overall idea behind the Circle of Hope Project is to improve the quality of life for American Indians by improving their potential for successful outcomes. This is accomplished through culturally sensitive case management and training to program staff to increase cultural competence in working with American Indian populations.

Most program participants are individuals in great need and have multiple issues that must be addressed including addiction and substance abuse, lack of health care, lack of housing, legal problems, severe poverty, and chronic homelessness. The Circle of Hope provides a way for the community to reach out to these underserved individuals.
