Volunteers are important to the mission of Volunteers of America, Utah but the organization's focus is on the operation of local human service programs and is not merely an organization that coordinates volunteers or volunteer work.
The individuals we serve are similar to us. The individuals we serve may have grown up in your neighborhood, attended your school or perhaps are family, co-workers or friends.
Volunteers of America, Utah serves the community with a focus on homeless individuals and people with substance abuse issues. We offer homeless outreach to the adult community through our Homeless Outreach Program and to youth on the streets through our Street Outreach Program and Homeless Youth Resource Center.
We have two facilities for detoxification from drugs and alcohol. The Adult Detoxification Center is a residential center that provides a safe environment for detoxification as well as 12-step meetings, case management services and referrals for treatment. At the Center for Women and Children homeless women can bring their children and get the support and treatment they need to begin on the road to recovery.
In operation for 8 years now Volunteers of America, Utah's, Substance Abuse DayTreatment Program helps low-income individuals to break free from addiction through counseling, group therapy, recreation groups and life skills training.
To assist in the transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency Volunteers of America, Utah also offers assistance in finding housing for individuals recovering from addictions. The Housing Program allows individuals and their families a period of two years to transition from homelessness to permanent housing.
